Course Description:

The course provides instruction on the components which are considered important for successful presentations in English. It also aims to develop students’ presentation skills in practice. Further, the course offers assistance to those who wish to improve their language skills in submitting project proposals.

Aims and Objectives:

The student will be able to:

  • communicate in English at level B1/B2
  • understand the main ideas from a written or spoken text related to his/her branch of study
  • present a topic related to his/her branch of study or interests
  • submit a project application
  • use appropriate lexical and discourse devices when writing a project application

Course objectives:

The language of the course is English and it is focused on the systematic improvement of presentation skills. The syllabus of the course is focused on the theoretical part of presentation skills, i.e. how to proceed the selected topic, through the content, to the formal arrangement and proper timing of the presentation. Students verify their knowledge in the form of practical exercises and presentations on a selected topic. They will learn how to work with their voice, how to use body language, how to prevent nervousness, how to respond to questions from listeners and students in the audience and how to conduct a conversation or discussion with regard to their needs. They will learn to work with information, organize it and then present it, they will learn to use the indispensable phrases used in presentations, but also how to create and verbally describe tables, graphs, pictures and links commonly used in presentations. An essential part is also working with audiovisual technology during the presentation itself.

Requirements:

Students actively participate in activities during the course. They each prepare a presentation on a pre-selected subject in the range of 5-7 minutes. At least 80% active participation in teaching is required.
